Ok I think we FINALLLY figured it out

** ok it looks like you'll have to create a gmail account (if you don't already have one) so you can use that email and password to log in. it only takes 2 seconds to do this.

THEN...
1) open page: http://theodowdfam.blogspot.com/

2) click "Sign in" at the top right corner and use your gmail address and password to sign in

3) then it should bring you to a "Navigation/Dashboard page" from there you can either hit "new post" or go back to blog site and you should be signed in where you will see at the top right corne

    I think we figured out another key thing - when you received Katy's original email, it is important you went to the link using the "accept invite to blog" instead of going directly to the blog link. This gives us all rights to make posts and enter new info to the blog instead of just making comments.
